노무현 전 대통령이 세상을 떠났다는 소식을 듣고나서 이런 저런 생각이 많이 들었다.
그 중에서 가장 안타깝고, 아쉬웠던 것은 바로 언론의 무책임함, 무능함 이었다.

특히 보수언론의 억지스런 논리의 공격과 현 정부의 언론 탄압 및 통제를 보면서
아무것도 할 수 없는 난 너무나 답답하고 왜소해 보였다.

언론이 존재하는 이유는 무엇인지, 왜 사람들은 뉴스와 신문을 보는지
그들은 과연 자신이 하는 일이 어떤 의미를 가지고 있는지 생각이나 하고 있을까??

Journalists investigate and criticise governments, thus helping voters decide whether to keep them or sack them. Autocracies can function perfectly well without news, but democacies cannot. Will the death of the dailiy newspaper-the main source of information for most educated people for at least the past centry, the scourge of corrupt politicians, the conscience of nations-damage democarcy?"
